Talk Synopsis Arising out of the recent declaration of the Singapore Conference Hall & Trade Union House as a National Monument, the Singapore Heritage Society has invited (Datuk Seri) Lim Chong Keat to present a talk about the concepts and the total design and building process and that led to the realisation of the building – and also the historical circumstances for architecture at that time. The speaker was a principal of the firm Malayan Architects Co-Partneship which won the architectural competition, and was the key designer and architect-in-charge of the project. He will discuss aspects of the total design including the site planning, the structure, climate considerations and detailing, and will also mention his special interest in the acoustics of the hall, and its use not only for conferences but also for concert performances.

Speaker Profile Lim was trained at the University of Manchester and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was the President of the Singapore Institute of Architects, SIA (1966 – 1969), and a Gold Medallist of the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia, PAM (Malaysian Institute of Architects). His other projects in Singapore include the (former) UOB HQ, the DBS Building and the Jurong Town Hall.
