The Architecture Society
CITYEX 2019: PRAXIS
City Exhibition returns to the Singapore City Gallery this year with the theme PRAXIS, a word that approaches CityEx metatextually, as a translation of a collective idea into the physical manifestation of an exhibition. In this edition of the exhibition, the team here at The Architecture Society want to highlight the diversity of students and years across the NUS Architecture body, and more importantly, bolster student participation and generate a sense of shared ownership of the exhibition. To that end, the CityEx organising team consists of students across three cohorts, all working towards the singular success of the exhibition.
With such extensive participation this year, the team decided on a direction that has resulted in unique spaces to showcase the individual flair of each cohort, as well as to better represent the syllabuses specially tailored to the academic objectives of each phase of design education. Guests will find themselves exploring the works of our NUS students in 5 distinct spaces, each responding to the curational conditions of 6 different briefs from the foundation years and a myriad of others from our 2-year Master’s Programme. These enclaves formed by rectangular steel frames arranged in an accordion formation are paired with cylinders of steel wire; raw, industrial and most importantly, translucent, highlighting intersections and oculi through layers of frames overlapping in space.
As per every edition of City Exhibition, expect only the best from the students of NUS Department of Architecture. With approximately 120 works from across every year of academic study, City Exhibition 2019: PRAXIS is sure to be an architectural spectacle, a celebration of the youngest minds in our industry, proposing thoughtful questions and radical ideas to the forefront of design.
City Exhibition 2019: PRAXIS will be opening on August 2nd 2019, 1930 at the Singapore City Gallery, running till August 23rd.
